About McDonald Observatory

The Frank N. Bash Visitors Center is the public outreach office for the McDonald Observatory in the West Texas area. The Visitors Center offers daily tours of the research facilities (reservations required) and solar viewing programs as well as Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evening "Star Parties." Star Parties are evening/nighttime viewing programs using both the unaided eye and telescopes, conducted at the Visitors Center Public Observatory at the base of Mount Locke. Terms & Conditions

COVID-19 Precautions:
• Reservations will be required to visit and/or participate in an Observatory-hosted public program.
• Guests confirm they are COVID symptom-free and will have their temperature screened.
• Masks covering your nose & mouth are required of all guests and staff.
• Guests are required to maintain at least 6 feet of space between them and others not in their group.
• Restrooms access is limited to one individual (or family) at a time.
• The Gift Shop can accommodate no more than 5 individuals at a time.
• The guests making reservations will supply a working cell number and/or email during the reservation process to allow contacting in the event of program updates or cancellations. Accurate contact information will also allow efficient contact tracing.
