Directions for Casa Harokosa
Santa Cruz, Guatemala
From Guatemala City or Guatemala International Airport, take a tourist shuttle to Panajachel. They run about $24 per person. A private taxi is $80, plus tip. When you arrive in Pana, ask the driver to drop you off at the Muelle Tzanjuyú if possible. This is the dock where the public boats depart to the northern towns on the lake. If he can't do this, you will need to catch a tuktuk from where they let you off. Tell the men at the dock you're going to Jaibalito.
When you're on board, the captain may ask you if you want to get off at the Casa del Mundo. That's a different dock, outside of Jaibalito, so tell them no, you need the muelle público (the public dock) in the pueblo. The trip will take 20 to 30 minutes and it will cost about 15 Quetzal per person. Note the captains will ask you to sit closely together inside the boat, towards the back. Sitting in the first rows inconveniences other passengers getting on and off. If you choose to sit in the bow, you risk getting wet and or injured, but it is a good place to put your bags. The captain or his helper may want to put your bags on the roof instead. If you accept help from the kids at the dock to carry your luggage, make sure to give them about 2 Quetzal per bag. When you arrive in Jaibalito, walk up the little road into town. Casa Harokosa is the first house on the left. It's walled with two black entrance gates. The larger gate is the main entrance.
