Terms & Conditions

What do I require in order to rent a boat?

Everyone who rents a boat from us requires the following:
- Valid Driver's License (Photo ID)
- Boat Operator's License Card (All Cdn. Residents) - Someone In Your Party Must Have a Cell Phone - A Credit Card for the Damage Deposit (Visa, MC, Amex)

What are the Rental Time Periods?

Monday to Friday: 8 AM to 5 PM
Saturday: 8 AM to 6 PM
Sunday: 9 AM to 6 PM
Holidays: 8 AM to 5 PM

* All Boats must be returned to the dock, unloaded and cleared by the return time indicated on your rental agreement. Failure to do so will result in late charges of $1.00/Minute after the return time.

Do I have to pay extra for parking when I'm renting from you?

If you are renting one of our pontoons, you can park up to 2 cars in our lot for the day, however if you are renting one of the small Widebodys, you can only have 1 parked. Extra cars are $10.00 each during the day, and you must also pay an extra $10.00 if you plan on leaving a car overnight.

Can we bring a BBQ?

Yes, you can bring a BBQ to use on site, but they cannot go on or be used on the boats. We have designated areas where BBQ's can be used.
Can we bring extra people to stay on land while we are out on the boat?

No, we do not allow any extra people to stay on land. (over the maximum capacity of your rented boat)
What is the Cancellation Policy? What Happens if the Weather is Bad?

Boats can be cancelled within 1 week of the rental date with no penalty and your deposit will be refunded to you, less the $5.00 Processing Fee. Cancellations under 1 week in advance will result in us retaining your $100.00 deposit, unless we are able to re-rent the boat.
Your rental can be cancelled or rescheduled due to harsh weather conditions (High Winds, Rain) with no penalty.
How much fuel will we use?

Although there is no possible way to determine how much fuel that your boat will use, we only use engines that are highly efficient and relatively inexpensive to operate. Many factors play into the fuel consumption such as: distance you travel, the speed you drive, number of persons in your party, wind resistance, etc.

Most of our groups enjoy fishing some or all of the time they are on the water. The average fuel amounts they use are:
Small Boats: $3.00 to $15.00
Pontoon Boats: $10.00 to $45.00

* If you are cruising most of the day, your fuel will be significantly more. Average for our pontoons in this regard is often $25.00 to $90.00
What if the boat is excessively dirty when we return it?

Obviously we don't expect the boats to return in perfect cleanliness, however any boats that our staff deem to be muddy, dirty, or with garbage will be subject to additional cleaning fees which will be deducted from your damage deposit. The two most frequent issues on the boats are spilled worm dirt and not rinsing mud and weeds from the anchors when retrieved. Both make considerable mess.
Where can I find Ontario fishing regulations?

You can find Ontario fishing regulations here: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsFish/index.html
I've never been on Rice Lake before, what dangers do I need to know about?

On Rice Lake there really is only one major hazard - The Railroad Tracks. In the 1800's there used to be a train that travelled across the lake from Harwood on the south side to Hiawatha on the north side. Ice damaged the tracks after several years, but the rocks remain just below the surface. The rocks are unmarked, creating a severe hazard. You must pass through specified areas marked by buoys. You will be provided with a map of the lake when you pick up your boat. The map must be returned at the end of your rental, otherwise you will be charged $7.99 + HST.
Can I bring my Dog on the boat?

Yes, we do allow smaller dogs or service dogs on our boats. Naturally you are fully responsible for their behaviour and any damage they may cause. All dogs must be on leashes when they are on land. We do not however provide life jackets for dogs.
Do I need to bring or rent life vests or other safety gear?

No, all the legally required safety equipment is included with your rental, including life vests to fit everyone in your party. Any items missing or unreturned will be deducted from your damage deposit.
Can we bring Alcohol on the boats?

This is one of the most common misconceptions with boating it seems. The rules for alcohol in boats are exactly the same as it is for cars in Ontario. Therefore there is absolutely no alcohol allowed on any of our boats. Enforcement from the O.P.P. is very strict on Rice Lake, and penalties are extremely severe.
Are there public washroom facilities on site?

Yes, we have 4 individual public washrooms on site. A key must be obtained from the main office. The washrooms are unavailable after hours.
Nobody in our party has a boat operator's license card, how do I get one?

There are several online sites that you can get your card at:

You can also take your boaters exam with us. Learn more here.
Can we fish off your docks?

We do not allow public fishing on any of our docks. There is a government dock that is located on the next road to the east of us which is accessable 24 Hrs / Day. (2km drive)
Can I hook up my iPod/iPhone to the stereos?

Yes, all of our pontoon boats that have stereos have an iPod/iPhone hookup. (iPhone 5 will require an adaptor) There is also 12v receptacles for powering other devices on all the pontoons and the SeaArk.
Where can I get a fishing license?
