About Bargetrip.ie

We meander out of Sallins, pass Soldiers Island and stop atop of the aqueduct spanning the Liffey. Departs 1 pm & 2.30 pm.

Our barge is a lovingly restored traditional canal barge and has a spacious comfortable interior with a wood burning stove, toilet facilities, on-board bar service and outdoor seating areas.

Sallins is where trade on the Grand Canal first began when passenger and cargo barges started hauling their horse drawn loads between the small Kildare village and Dublin in 1780. Three years later the engineers overcame one of their first major obstacle - crossing over the river Liffey.

Today Sallins is a bustling inland harbour village with 4 award winning restaurants & bars on the waterfront, and an array of boats, barges, houseboats and a brewery. It is 30 mins from Dublin city center with trains runningl every hour.
